Spanish Conference Highlights
- Opening Day Plenary: Decolonization and Feminist Economics
This plenary responds to the theme of the conference on transformative change that “celebrates ideas, movements, and policies which promote transformative change, that is, change that seeks to challenge and reshape the structures that produce inequality, from a feminist economics perspective”. The discussion will give recognition to the feminists who continue the decolonial and post-colonial movements of the 20th century that not only challenged but sought to remake the world order. It will examine the continuation of this struggle against neocolonialism in the 21st century, which is increasingly exploitative and extractive of women’s labor and of the Global South. Panelists will reflect on how feminist economics can contribute to overturning the coloniality of power structures that continue to underpin economic life and reproduce gender and North-South inequalities.
Featured speakers: Alessadra Mezzadri, Bhumika Muchhala, Fernanda Rebelato, Jayati Ghosh, and Lyn Ossome; and moderated by Sakiko Fukuda-Parr
- Closing Day Plenary: Bridging Feminist Economics from Academia to Understanding & Addressing Polycrises
As the conference showcases academic papers and discussions around Feminist Economic theories, studies, and analyses, this plenary will ground the audience in how feminist economic thought is impacting ideas and policies, and its role as an effective tool for movements. The discussion will hone in on present-day polycrises and how these are being understood from a feminist economics standpoint, addressed from above by government entities, and what solutions are emerging from below via grassroots movements. Panelists include representatives from government and activist movements, and feminist economists who strategically collaborate with practitioners - ultimately exploring how feminist economic thinking and analysis in academia is bridging with activism and real-world application, and how this connection can be strengthened into the future.
Featured speakers: Isabella Guerin, Martha Caravajalino, and Verónica Gago; moderated by Rebeca Gomez Betancourt; with closing remarks by Sara Cantillon
