IAFFE Feminist Economics School

The IAFFE Feminist Economics School is designed to bring together approximately 30 early-career scholars, practitioners, activists, and policymakers engaged in research and action on issues of concern to feminist economics, but who have had little or no formal access to training in feminist economics. To apply, applicants should have either (a), Completed at least 3 years of advanced graduate studies in a field related to feminist economics or (b) 5 years of work experience in areas addressing feminist economics issues. The School offers participants a unique opportunity to build their expertise through formal training in feminist economics, to bridge the gap between theory and real-world impact, and to meet leading feminist economists.

Since 2023, IAFFE has hosted four Feminist Economics Schools: in Cape Town, South Africa (2023); Rome, Italy (2024); Amherst, USA (2025); and Cali, Colombia (2026). Participants have come from around the world, including members of Indigenous communities and marginalized and minority groups. In 2024 alone, they came from 19 countries.

IAFFE’s Feminist Economics School Committee defines the topics and programmes for Feminist Economics Schools. Any IAFFE member may join the Committee.

Call for Applications FE School 2027

We are delighted to announce that applications are now open for the 2027 IAFFE Feminist Economics School (FE School), to be hosted by Okayama University in Okayama, Japan, from June 29 to July 1, 2027.

The FE School is designed for participants who have had limited access to formal training in feminist economics. Over two and a half days of interactive workshops, early career scholars, activists, and policymakers working in areas related to feminist economics will build a strong foundation in feminist economic thought, methodologies, and policy applications, while reflecting critically on their own practices and experiences. The FE School takes place just before the IAFFE Annual Conference (July 2–4, 2027), and participants are expected to attend both the Pre-Conference on July 1 and the full Conference.

Applications from people based in the Global South and from historically discriminated-against groups around the world are especially welcome.
To be eligible, applicants should have at least five years of professional, activist, or social movement experience related to feminist economics, or have completed at least three years of advanced graduate studies in a field related to feminist economics..
Participation in the School is free of charge, and travel grants are available to support selected participants. As workshops are highly interactive, a solid command of English is required. The FE School is a full-immersion, participatory experience with limited places. We are looking for applicants with real curiosity about and a serious commitment to feminist economics, who are ready to be fully present during the School and to learn alongside their peers both in and outside formal sessions.
